Artist Statement

After moving from Iowa to the East Coast and back to Iowa again, I have become enamored of the ocean and the creatures that live in it.  I use a variety of techniques including wheel throwing, molding, and coiling focusing on color and form.  The use of slips and the layering of different glazes help create surface texture.

While exploring forms I try to move beyond simply recreating sea creatures by turning them into functional vessels. This is done by focusing on specific aspect of the creature such as a texture, color or shape of a particular body part.

I have also begun experimenting with Fabric art. I am currently creating sock & yarn creatures with both repurposed, secondhand and new materials.
